If, like most people, your initial question upon hearing this was “Who is this man and why is he everywhere?” then you will understand what I’m talking about. Stanley Osifo is the “David” in a political world dominated by “Goliaths” and “Irokos. He was the guy who ran in a race with a sitting president for a party ticket; a lot of veterans wouldn’t have dared to do that.
You either have to admire his incredible bravery or his incredible ambition, but either way his story is fascinating. So, why not grab a drink and let’s get into the full history of Chief Stanley Osifo. It’s his age, his “money-moves” in business, his educational journey and why he is at this moment the talk of the town in Nigerian politics.
Who is Stanley Osifo?

Stanley Osayamen Osifo, popularly known as Chief Stanley Osifo, is a 50-year-old business man and politician from the heart of the nation, Edo State. He hails from Oluku Ward of Ovia North-East Local Government Area.
If you are familiar with any Edo politics, you know that they do not do “dull. They make characters out of grit. Osifo was born around 1974 and is not a “newborn” in the scene, but certainly one of the “younger” leaders trying to change the status quo in Nigerian politics, where “70” is the new “50”.
What makes him trending right now? It’s not just that he’s from Edo. So it is because he was the only one in the entire All Progressive Congress (APC) that used N100,000,000 to purchase nomination form to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 ticket. You imagine you are in a room where everyone is saying consensus, you raise your hand and say, “actually, I’d like a shot at that”. That’s a special kind of liver, isn’t it?
Educational Background
You may ask yourself, is this guy just waking up and wanting to be a politician? When you examine his background, you notice that he has already been working diligently to develop his leadership skills for quite some time.
He began his schooling in Benin City at Payne Primary School and later at the renowned Edokpolo Grammar School. Then he chose to go to the center of excellence: Lagos for his higher education. He is a proud graduate of Lagos State University (LASU).
However, his field of study was not Political Science or Law, as you might think. Osifo has a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Christian Religious Studies.
So what does this mean? Well, it does tell you a bit about his “non-violent” and “loyalist” political stance. Even if he loses, he is speaking in a calm voice like he knows the “higher power” dynamics. That may be why he’s not been seen throwing insults at his opponents, as he often sees his political vision through an ethical and moral prism.
Professional Life
Stanley Osifo was (and continues to be) a businessman before he became a headline-grabbing politician. He is referred to in several reports as an “international entrepreneur” and a “trader.
The term “trader” doesn’t mean a small stall in a market. In the Nigerian context, especially for someone who can casually drop 100 million Naira on a political form, “trader” usually means someone involved in high-stakes international commerce, import-export, commodity trading, and large-scale procurement.
He has interests in:
- Energy: He’s a big advocate for hydro, solar, and gas. He’s often spoken about how Nigeria needs to decentralize power to actually get the bulbs on.
- Agriculture: He believes that farming does not have to be a “poor man’s job” but is indeed the foundation of the economy.
- Technology: He has talked about creating Silicon Valley-style hubs in Nigeria.
His name of his private companies is not disclosed, but as is common with many “under-the-radar” Nigerian moguls, his financial ability speaks for itself. It’s not the kind of position you reach in Nigeria by selling recharge cards.
Entry into Politics
Osifo’s political career is not new. He has been playing the long game.
It was his first big move in 2018/2019. He was among the youngest presidential aspirants of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He even paid the N12 million nomination fee at that time. What he sold then was “Youth Alternative” line, hoping to take advantage of the “Not Too Young to Run” movement. The PDP big wigs, however, did not exactly hold the red carpet out for him and he moved on.
He was officially a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2022.
Why the switch? As many politicians in Nigeria, Osifo appears to think that he can work within the “ruling structure” to create a change. You can’t repair a house from the outside, you have to get in.
The “David vs. Goliath” Moment

That’s the one that got everyone talking. During the early stages of 2026 when the APC was preparing for the 2027 primaries, the general impression was that President Tinubu would be a “consensus” candidate. He was already backed by most governors and party chieftains.
Then came Stanley Osifo.
He went to the party secretariat and received the N100 million form. The media went crazy. Was he a “mole”? Was he being paid by the opposition? Or was he simply trying to get famous?
Osifo dismissed all of it. During the press conference in Abuja, he said something that many people could relate with: “There is nothing in our party’s constitution that says that when someone is endorsed, he automatically becomes the candidate.
He campaigned under the slogan “Metamorphosis 2027. He was not merely an intervener, but one who had a manifesto. Things he talked about:
1. Economic Reform: Strengthening the Naira through production, not just prayers.
2. Security: Intelligence-driven technology, not “boots on the ground.”
3. Governance – Transparency of the system.
The Results: 16,500 vs. 11 Million
The primary did come, and the results were… predictable. President Tinubu won a resounding vote of over 10.9 million. Stanley Osifo received 16,505 votes.
In some states like Rivers and Delta, he got zero votes. He was even reported to have received just one vote in some wards in his home state of Edo.
Wait, why is he trending when he just lost that bad?
Because of how he handled it. Rather than heading to court or shout “rigging” (the typical Nigerian political reaction), Osifo did something unusual. He greeted the President and shook his hand and vowed his loyalty.
Even Tinubu addressed him, stating, “I don’t have any grudge against you, even against Osifo who spent money.” That “handshake” moment made Osifo a symbol of the “new kind of politician” who competes hard but remains a “party man” at the end of the day.

Family Life
If you pay attention, you will notice that Stanley Osifo does not show his family to the cameras. He is an “Edo homeboy,” and he has strong ties to his community, but he’s not used his wife or children as political pawns.
This privacy makes him an enigma in a world where politicians’ families are on Instagram. It implies that this is a man who appreciates his real life away from the crazed Abuja politics.
Net Worth
Let’s look at the finances now. Osifo’s net worth is unknown as he has never served in public office (no asset declaration forms to rummage through for us).
However, we can do some Math:
- 2019: Dropped N12 million on a PDP form.
- 2026: Dropped N100 million on an APC form.
Campaigning: He travelled around various states, held Press Conferences, and kept a Press Team.
This isn’t “small boy” money. To sustain this kind of political run independently, he’s likely worth several hundreds of millions, if not billions, of Naira in assets and business interests. He’s a self-made mogul, and he’s definitely at ease enough to take a chance with his dreams.
Legacies

Whilst it is early to speak of a “legacy” in reference to any law passed or any road constructed, Stanley Osifo has left an impression on Nigerian democracy:
1. Breaking the “Consensus” Myth: He proved that an “ordinary” member can challenge a sitting president. He proved that the door is open, even if it’s a heavy one.
2. The “Good Sport” Model: His post-election reconciliation with Tinubu set a tone for “politics without bitterness.
3. Youth Inspiration: He’s now a “serial aspirant,” and he’s telling young Nigerians that they don’t need to wait till they’re 80 to have a vision for the country.
Is Stanley Osifo the Future?
Many are wondering what’s next for him? Some have said that he is looking to be a minister while others believe that he is looking to be the next Governor of Edo State.
Stanley Osifo has already shown himself to be a player who doesn’t quit. He’s got the cash, and the schooling, and the “liver,” and now national recognition.
What do you think? Is he a hero for daring to challenge the status quo, or is he just a businessman playing a very expensive game?
We can only hope we get to see him again sooner than later in the coming years. Nigerian politics just got a bit interesting, thanks to the “Christian Religious Studies” graduate from LASU.
